Welcome
Community-based clinics providing quality health care, free of charge, to indigent residents of South Carolina
Free clinics in South Carolina counties provide indigent residents with quality health care, including:
- A medical home
- Prescription medications and diabetic supplies from a basic formulary
- Patient education
and in some cases:
- Dental care
- Chiropractic care
- Psychological counseling
South Carolina's free clinics are all community-based, and the clinics are as diverse as the communities that sponsor them. Some are outreach from non-profit hospitals; some were developed by congregations or multi-denominational faith groups; some are United Way agencies; one is based in a homeless shelter; and one is affiliated with a regional university's nursing school.
The South Carolina Free Clinic Association is incorporated in South Carolina as a public charity with a 501c3 designation pending. Our purpose is to support free clinic staff and volunteers, build capacity to provide medical care to the indigent, and gather reliable information on the medical needs of working and non-working poor people in our state. We are financially sustained by membership dues and grants from The BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation and The Duke Endowment.
